Anti - Smoking law , Mauritian hypocrisy continues ..

Why should the liberties of some value more than the liberties of others ?
Why should smokers be FORCED to stop smoking ?
Why should smokers not be liable to smoke with other friends in a car which is a private place ?
Why are some persons so hypocrite ?

Tourists will stop coming to mauritius.
People will stop going to nightclubs and bars.
Consommation will go down if it is not already going down with the worldwide crisis.
Tourism rate will fall down.
Around 30% of more of the mauritian population smokes, man + woman, why is a third of the population being marginalised ?
"...in peace, justice and LIBERTY.." here goes the national anthem..
Unfortunately, Liberty is not for all, but only for non smokers.
Smoking now will cost rs5000 to smokers as fines..
Smokers will be allowed to buy cigarettes in packets of 20 only.

Meaning, Someone wanting to smoke a cigarette once in a while, will have to buy a cigarette box of 20 and has more of a chance to get addicted.

This post is not against the governmental law and does not promote smoking and influence anyone to smoke.
This is just my point of view, and being in a democratic country, i have the RIGHT to explain my point of view.

Since this decision affects more than a third of tha mauritian population, why hasn't that law been asked for a referundum before being voted ?

I am FOR laws prohibiting persons to smoke next to non smokers. I, however cannot understand why smokers should not be allowed to smoke in the open.
Implement a law, yes ! nothing wrong with that. But atleast give the facilities to the smokers to continue smoking if they WISH to.
Smokers should not be marginalised, they are part of the mauritian community.

In the same line of thought, i honestly think that we are not far from seeing a day, whereby, they will put HIV positive persons into concentration camps. Just because of the fear that HIV positive persons could start contaminating people if they get drunk and angry and mad or just out of sick mind.

Mauritians have been for a long time very hypocrite as we have seen before on the laureates issues, on the hsc issues, and many other issues..
It is hereby not amazing that they are showing once more their hypocrisy and trying to impose themselves on others.

President Hu Jintao in Mauritius on 24 hour Visit.

The honorable President of the People's republic of China, his excellency Mr. Hu Jintao is finally in Mauritius. The much awaited visit of the president which brings hope of developpement for the small island of Mauritius which is the door of africa for China.

The Chinese President has many big subjects of discussion on his 24 hours agenda here:

• tianli & construction projects.
• further loans / credit agreements.
• Reinforcement of sino-mauritian relationships.

The Chateau du Reduit has been been nicely dressed into chinese :)) for the visit of his excellency, the President of the People's Republic of China.

Very nice and positive vibrations around Mauritius today, with the visit of his excellency to Mauritius, which is something very big and the Mauritians are experiencing a sensation of unknown. They don't know if it is a good thing for the country or a bad thing. However, since the "Mauritian" is more or less of a positive attitude, he is expecting a lot from the visit of such an important guest to our dot-like country on the World Map!.

The Prime Minister of Mauritius greeted the President of the People's Republic of China at the Sir Seewosagur Ramgoolam International Airport today, 16 February 2009 at 15h55.

Mauritius was in a quasi-quarantined state by evening !! As shown on the pictures below, however, most roads were open but the Mauritians, after a busy morning in the heat and scorching sun preferred stay in their cosy homes.
The regions of reduit / quatre bornes / trianon / palma were like under quarantine!! lolzz..

The chinese and sino-mauriciens were not going to miss such a great opportunity of seeing their president, knowing that in china, they are 1 in 1000 millions, and here only 1 in a million , they had a much more likely chance of seeing him, some of who even got the chance to shake his hand.

Tomorow, Mauritius will again be waiting eagerly what the chinese President has for us, and will again be kept under quarantine for some more hours :)

Chaleur torride à Maurice - "Canicule" à Port Louis

Comme dit le fameux dicton : « Après la pluie, le beau temps »

Inévitablement, cela s’applique à la situation climatique de notre petite ile qui flotte aisément dans l’Océan Indien. Mais le beau temps sera confusément défini dans notre contexte. Apres quelques jours de forte pluie, on a eu recours à un apaisement de la chaleur qu’on endurait depuis l’année dernière : Les nuits étaient plus douces et moins chaudes ; on pouvait certainement dormir sur nos deux oreilles sous notre couette.

Mais ne nous réjouissons pas de si tôt ! La chaleur étouffante est de retour chez nous quoi qu’on ne l’accueille pas à bras ouverts.

Dans toute ile, on se plaint de cette chaleur ayant un caractère atroce qui fait de nos journées lourdes et nos nuits blanches. Si on n’a point de climatisateurs ni de ventilateurs qui apaisent notre mal de nuit, on est coincé évidemment !

La surconsommation électrique due à l'usage intensif des climatiseurs entraîne conséquemment de plus un déséquilibre brutal de l'offre et de la demande.

Néanmoins, on n’est pas arrivé à la canicule et on doit se considérer chanceux. En premier lieu, aucun facteur de la sécheresse n’est à noter jusqu’à présent. Puis, les cas d’incendie des forets n’ont pas été rapportés. Ce qui explique la "canicule du siècle", comme désignée par les médias, en Australie où plusieurs habitations ont été ravagées sous les flammes mortelles des incendies qui ont eu lieu. De plus, on souligne une série de décès imputés à des coups de chaleur.

Certes, la population mauricienne ne doit guère faire la sourde oreille. On doit commencer à être vigilants et ainsi se protéger des effets de cette chaleur qui nous guette et nous ronge la vie.

Il y a trois catégories de gens qui sont particulièrement exposées :

• les enfants : La chaleur expose les nourrissons et les enfants au coup de chaleur et au risque de déshydratation rapide : ils sont plus sensibles à ces risques du fait de leur jeune âge. Les parents doivent donc leur procurer régulièrement des boissons fraîches même en l’absence de demande, et les aider à boire. Les promenades et sorties seront limitées pendant les pics de chaleur, particulièrement avant l’âge d’un an, toujours avec des vêtements légers, de couleur claire, sans oublier un chapeau pour se protéger des rayons de soleil. Il est de plus conseillé de donner des bains fréquents durant la journée.

• les personnes âgées ou ceux qui ont des maladies cardiaques : celles-ci sont plus fragiles que l’ensemble de la population. Elles sont ainsi les premières personnes qui devront appliquer les conseils prodigués. Elles doivent faire appel à leur famille ou à leur entourage pour se faire aider ou pour avoir recours à l’eau même si la notion de soif est absente.

• les personnes exposées aux chaleurs extrêmes par exemple les maçons, les éboueurs, les marchands ambulants, les gens qui travaillent sur le port voire les sportifs, randonneurs ; bref, ceux qui font des efforts physiques sous ce soleil de plomb.

Soyez vigilants!

On doit avoir recours aux précautions nécessaires en avance.

L’épuisement survient après plusieurs jours de chaleur, surtout chez les personnes âgées, et se manifeste principalement par des étourdissements, une faiblesse et une fatigue, une insomnie ou une agitation nocturne inhabituelle. Les conseils à prendre sont diverses.

A noter :

1. Boire fréquemment et abondamment de l’eau, du jus de fruit ou une boisson énergétique diluée d’eau, même lorsque l’on n’a pas la sensation de soif (boire au moins 1,5 litres voire 2 litres d’eau par jour.)

2. Se rafraîchir en se mouillant la peau ou tout simplement prendre des bains fréquents lorsqu’on transpire considérablement.

3. Eviter les sorties aux heures les plus chaudes et maintenir sa maison fraîche en ayant une bonne aération.

4. Se protéger du soleil en appliquant une crème solaire en particulier et se munir d’une bouteille d’eau lorsqu’on se déplace.

5. Porter des vêtements amples, aérés et clairs et des chaussures légères.

Enfin, un message de solidarité : ne pas hésiter à aider et à se faire aider.

At the moment i am talking with you, an electric storm is over Port Louis since 1 hour now.
Each minute there is atleast 1 thunder coming across the sky in port louis.
This phenomenon has been witnessed last week.
It is becoming more often these days, hope it does not go on crescendo.
Neways, very wet and slippery day forecasted tomorow, with hmmm loads of dirt in ma trousers and uncomfortable conditions !! pffftt..
:)) However for now dear friends, enjoy the nice weather outside ..

Vols a l'université de maurice, vols de porte-monnaie, pendrive, et meme Voiture !! L'uom devient une aubaine pour les voleurs/ses

Des jours très sombres s'annoncent à l'université de Maurice ces jours ci! Suite aux nombreux cas de vols de porte-monnaie d'étudiants depuis l'année derniére, les voleurs ou d'autres voleurs ont un penchant pour des voitures!!

Selon une article L'express dimanche du 8 Février 2009, "Une étudiante se dirige vers le parking de l'université de Maurice récupérer sa voiture, une Nissan March flambant neuve dont elle vient de faire l'acquisition. Mais stupeur, la voiture n'y est pas."
Tel est le sombre tableau desormais à l'uom, une université de prestige mauricienne, qui tente de percer en afrique et ose prétendre devenir la plus grande université de l'Ocean Indien, si elle ne l'est déja avec ces 10000+ étudiants !!!

Ce vol de voiture peut choquer, mais malheureusement, on n'en est point au premier. Aprés investigation, on a su qu'un personel de l'université s'était aussi vu voler sa voiture alors meme que la clef était dans sa poche !.

Témoignage d'un autre étudiant cette fois ci, nous masquerons son identité par peur de représailles sur sa personne, R.O," j'étais une fois aller à une des toilettes de la faculté de **********, et il y avait un bout de plywood dans la pièce qui était avancé. Par pure curiosité, j'avais bougé le plywood pour voir ce qu'il y avait à l'intérieur. Grande fut ma stupeur quand une douzaine de porte monnaies se présentaient devant moi!! Aussi, il y avait une odeur nauseabonde qui provenait de cet endroit. "

Autre temoignage d'un garcon, A.B , "j'avais oublié les clefs de mon casier suspendu au cadenas: c'était après les examens, l'université était encore ouverte quelque jours. Le lendemain quand je suis revenu pour prendre mes affaires du casier, la plupart des choses avait disparu et la porte grande ouverte, parmi mes objects personnels, il y avait des parfums très chers et aussi d'autres trucs que j'ai eus en cadeau de l'étranger"

Telle est le constat à l'université de maurice, les élèves, soit disant émergeant de l'élite jettent le discrédit sur cette institution qui se bat pour se faire une place sur la scéne regionale.
Mais, on ne va guère étre méchant à ce point de dire que tous les étudiants sont des voleurs; mais des voleurs à l'uom, il y en aurait une grosse poignée ces jours ci. Aux autres étudiants, veillez bien sur vos objects personnels, parce que le/s voleur/s guette/nt!!

HSC results 2008-2009 !! HSC - Hypocrite Society Control ! Laureate Stupidity ! Mauritius Hypocrites ..

Sick , really sick of hearing the hsc results and their laureats..
Though i have appreciated a lot the interview of the girl from a modest family who was veryy touching.. Congratulations to her ..

Having said that, i have come to think over the years about the hsc and specially about the scholarships. What is the use of the scholarship ?? Are the students eligible for the scholarships ?? meaning the laureats and all !

I happen to understand, that there should be some kind of competition ! but should that be specially for a scholarship !!

If U wana prove you are the best in mauritius, fine .. glad for u.. well their should be a prize given to you for that , and we will all be happy about it. But the thing is that, most of the laureats, their parents can afford giving them many lessons to be able to grasp the subjects to the max and to learn everything about the subjects.

The scholarship should be for children from modest family ONLY and students should have to fill a form demanding if they are eligible or not! .. a family who can already afford paying rs3000- 4000 tuition fees for their kids, i cannot see why that kid, should now get money to go to university.. !! from the state !! and moreover, he wont even come back to mauritius!!

I, therefore appeal to the Government of the Republic of Mauritius and to the concerned ministries, the population would be very satisfied with it, shall the Government stop that injustice made to the children from modest family, who even doing the best with what they can. Even obtaining very good results, being in the 20 best of the National level, they still cannot aspire to go to the best universities. Because, Somewhere someone else who was damn spoonfed with tuitions got the laureat title and that chance.

I however do not deny the many sacrifices and merits of that rich family student, but the scholarships should be a gift of the Government to the Needy. Not a Gift to the well-offs of the society.

Hope Those Words do not fall into deaf ears.

Impressing !! .. The Number of thunders heard for about 20 minutes.. should have been a record for mauritius !! .. De memoire d'homme de mon age .. rien de pareille n'est jamais arive a port-louis, capital et port de l'ile maurice.

INTENSIFIED INTO A SEVERE TROPICAL STORM.
AT 1600 HOURS SEVERE TROPICAL STORM GAEL WAS CENTRED WITHIN 30 KM
RADIUS OF LATITUDE 17.9 DEGREES SOUTH AND LONGITUDE 60.0
DEGREES EAST,
AT ABOUT 360 KM TO THE NORTH EAST OF MAURITIUS.
GAEL IS MOVING TOWARDS THE WEST SOUTH WEST AT A REDUCED SPEED OF
15KM/H. ON THIS TRAJECTORY, GAEL IS APPROACHING MAURITIUS AND
REPRESENTS A THREAT. A CHANGE IN ITS TRAJECTORY TOWARDS THE SOUTH
WILL BRING THE CENTRE CLOSER TO MAURITIUS.

Halte aux rats!! Stop RATS !!!

A lifetime since i live in port louis, but never have i seen before sooo many rats, in the roads of port louis , in the roads of chinatown, of plaine-verte .. near champs de mars and the areas below Signal Mountain ! Rats Elimination Campaigns are being made in Curepipe .. But Why NOT Port Louis ?? The usual frontpage of the island for tourists and businessmen !!

This has become an unbearable problem, rats can now be seen in hospitals and dispensaries in port louis , this has become a huge problem which no one talks.
And this can't continue.

Reasons why rats should be exterminated :

• Rats leak urine since they dont have sphincter muscles, thus they contaminate more than they eat.

• Rats can proliferate very very quickly, a rat can have around 20 kidos very quickly..

• Rats are big carriers of all sorts of viruses and bacteries !!

FACTS ABOUT RATS:

• An adult rat can squeeze into your home through a hole as small as the size of a quarter.
• Rats can live for up to 18 months, but most die before they are one year old.
• Rats have strong teeth that allow them to chew through glass, cinderblock, wire, aluminum and lead.

Types of Rats :

Norway Rat : This rat tends to be more agressive to animals and humans than Roof rats !!
If you got an agressive rat, it is surely a norway rat. BEWARE : IT CAN BITE

Roof Rat : It's name says it all, this rat is more commonly found strolling about on the roof and they live off the ground. Roof Rats are excellent climbers and they usually live in spaces on the tops of buildings, on roofs or in attics. They also live in sheds, garages, boxes, ceilings, under floors, in wood heaps and in thick grass.

PREVENTION:

• Rats like to eat, so keep your homes clean and do not leave food out.
• Make sure that your home and storage areas are clean and dry.
• Make sure that you clean your sheds, crawlspaces, and garbage cans often.
• Close up any small holes and cracks they can come in through.

EXTERMINATION :

• Best way to kill rats, is to use rat traps which are widely available. put a bait on it, fish, potato, fruit..
• Use rat glues.. paste it on a board.. put some fruit on the board.. or if you know the path the rat follows usually.. jus put the board with the glue in the way. It should get the rat trapped on.
• You can always use rat poison which are less efficient on rats nowadays !! ..

Having said all that, rats in rural and urban areas are not the same kinds and have different habits, same like human.

IMPORTANT NOTE : Before attempting extermination of rats around your house, make sure all the points in the prevention list above have been cleared. Rats in the house are inside the house and the house is their territory, so rats outside in the neighbourhood won't dare to come.
However, if you kill the rats inside, the rats from the neighbourhood will come and keep coming again and again and you might end up with a bigger problem !!

So, before attempting extermination of the rats found in your house, spot all entrances the rats might have used to get in!!
