4 years nearly since my baby was born amidst the turmoil of the 2014 general election voting day. Since then, true to say priorities changed but I also gave some credits to the lepep government and kept faith sooner or later something good would eventually crop up.
4 years later - the lepep government has already exploded and only 2 parties, correct me if i am wrong, are leading the government today.
We all know what happened in the end which is also a new beginning for others. These events however should however open the eyes of the Mauritians.
None of our elected opposition parties felt the need or responsibility to do this. Therefore their "lacheter" confirms to me that they all form part of a big cartel.. They have been here for more than 5 decades - including so-called alternative parties..
Changing things won't be easy and at some point in time we can even ask ourselves, would it be worth it?
About the recent crackdown on activitists for the depenalization of cannabis in Mauritius, We have a clear opinion on the matter:
1. We are not for legalization of cannabis in Mauritius as up to now but we are for a debate on the matter.
2. We clearly are against any brutality, using of brutality against activists and the people of Mauritius is totally unacceptable.
3. We urge the government and all stakeholders to come forward with a civil debate on the matter.
4. While cultural reasons might be an important point, on such matter where health is concerned, a more scientific approach is a priority.
5. Advice of countries such as Netherlands should be sought in dealing with a depenalization of such drug.
6. Researches should be made on the impact of such depenalization on our soil
7. We are a sovereign state with a democratically elected government, on such cases where they have not been mandated to act, they should advice for a debate and national referendum to give their consent for such decision.
The many anime lovers out there will be damn glad to stumble on this article. We came across some anime creators who happen to also make small artefacts of their creators.
They were under a tent near the 1st of May meeting today at Beau Bassin. Here are a few shots of their stand and what we bought.
Quick and damn easy with only 6 ingredients and 10 minutes needed at most and 5 minutes for cleanup !. Why don't you do your mayonnaise instead of buying supermarket ones with full of preservatives and you are not even sure about the quality of the ingredients. With your own made mayonnaise, you can choose the oil, the fresh eggs, fresh lemons and add your taste of mustard and any herbs you wish.
Not to forget that for what it's worth, your homemade mayonnaise will cost you much cheaper.
Ingredients:
1 large egg yolk
1/2 teaspoon of salt (a bit less is better but add to taste)
1 teaspoon vinegar (same as the one you put in your salad)
1 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice (we used the lemon juice from supermarket for salad)
1/2 teaspoon of Mustard powder
3/4 cup of oil (we used sunflower oil - Brand: Slite and a plastic cup)
& if you wish
Small pinches of herbs (rosemary, thyme and parsley)
Instructions:
1. Separate the yolk from the white (we used an egg separator but it can be done without it easily)
2. Put your egg yolk in a bowl, add the salt, vinegar, lemon juice, mustard powder and herbs.
3. Use your mixer on the ingredients to get a bright yellow color. Mix all together for 30 seconds.
4. Put the oil drop by drop with a spoon while mixing the whole. Use 1/4 of the cup of oil.
5. Continue with the rest of the oil you should put it very little by little and each drop by drop you put in the mixture should be mixed completely before continuing.
6. When you have finished all the oil, you are done. Normally the mixing operation should take 8 minutes.
You can add a spoon of hot water while mixing if it is too thick.
But, with the above ingredients it won't be :) We are sure about it because we did it ! :)
If you have an immersion mixer instead no need to add the oil little by little. You simply have to mix everything together. Start from the bottom to the top.
What I love about home made mayo :)
It is creamy and rich with a natural tanginess with makes you want to dip your fries into them. Also, this is perfect when you are planning a BBQ and got many guests coming. You don't have to ruin yourself over buying mayonnaise from the store. You can make as much as you want for half the price !.
And anyway store bought mayonnaise really taste like a watery imitation compared to this one.
How much time can you keep it ? [VERY IMPORTANT]
Last and definitely not LEAST ! .. Home made mayonnaise does not contain any preservatives and turn bad often over 48 hours up to 1 week (kept in fridge). You should take care to get fresh and good looking eggs, else look for pasteurized eggs.
If you use it quite rarely, it would be better for you to buy the store one. But for recipes requiring a lot of mayonnaise or like when you need a lot of mayonnaise for special occasions then its definitely better to make your own.

The Desforges street (a.k.a Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Street) in Port louis is always traffic jammed. Most of the cars however, have no business to do on the street itself and is just a transit on their way.
Alternatives do exist:
To go North Use the parallel street Remi ollier
To go South Use the parallel Sir Virgil Naz
So, if you are coming in port louis city center, you would prefer staying away from Desforges street during Weekdays between 8-9 am, 3-6 p.m and on Saturdays between 11- 2 h 30 p.m
DX.com – DealExtreme The Tteoobl 318 20-Meter Outdoors Diving Waterproof Case for Camera w/ Neck Strap - Black has been purchased from the dx.com website and is quite cheap. The waterproof case comes with a neck strap and all in a box shipped to you in a matter of a few weeks.
Pros:
Cheap- it is sold at only $12.10 which is actually very cheap since you do not have to buy a waterproof camera and can use your own point and shoot camera with this product with a very low investment.
Secure- With the use of the neck strap, you can swim freely among the fish and be free of your movements. You can then grab the camera when you are ready for a shot and afterwards just drop it and let it hang around your neck while you continue exploring the underwater beauty of the lagoon.
Picture Quality-The picture quality is very good compared to other products where the image gets blurred.
Use: Very easy to use, all you need to do is open the 3 screws and push your camera inside and tighten them back. Then, test to see if water goes inside. If everything is fine, you can start using it. To access the camera trigger, a finger compartment is provided in the design. You can shoot your pictures easily.
Camera Models: It is designed normally for Lumia but I have tried it also with a Nikon Coolpix and it works fine. Should work with most point and shoot small camera having a zoom function.
Cons:
Size- The camera is a bit loose inside but it can accommodate several models though.
Material- The material looks durable but the opening/closing system seems a bit fragile and will not last for years but for that price it will last at least for 2 years.
So here is a small video of the unboxing of the product:
Video:
Bottom line:The product does what it says. It is cost-effective compared to buying a waterproof camera. It is a worthy purchase but maybe it should have been an under $10s product.
Shock and awe, Exactly 4 years later. The writings were on the wall.. 30 March 2009 and now 30 March 2013. This is not an action or sci-fi movie!. Everyone who lived this day in the Port Louis city center today can witness that today was a really shocking one. Vehicles of all sizes floating on water which had inundated the Jardin de la compagnie, Water all over the motorway at the waterfront. The city was paralyzed and the island was on its knees!.
UPDATED 11:27 PM 31/03/2013 : 11 DEATHS
The death toll continues to increase..
The death toll right: 8 victims !. Victims of what ?
Victims of the branches and dirt accumulated in the rivers that came down in fury and blocked at the bridges at the canal du pouce !. The river flooded the area and that's where it all begun!
Victims of the authorities, why so much garbage in the rivers ?. What are the cleaning services doing ? Are there no quality assurance ?
Victims of the nature ? I wonder ! 300mm of rain at Ste Rose in Reunion and NO DEATH. HALF that amount in Port Louis and already 8 deaths and counting !
The writings were on the wall already in 2009 ! and nothing has been done up to now ! check out the link below for what happened in 2009 ! exactly the same except that this time we have deaths ! a lot of deaths ! http://ashfaqblog.blogspot.com/2009/03/flash-rains-in-port-louis.html

I would like to point out that unless cyclonic warnings are enforced on the island, the refugee centers will not be opened. Then, where are those who do not have a roof over their heads, those who normally sleep in the gardens and streets of Port Louis go to hide against the cold and rain ?.
I can only wish right now that something is being done to help them in those dire situations.
Keep Tuned, will get you updated if things get worse around here !
Mauritius is participating in the Orange African Cup of Nations and it seems that nothing is being done to promote Football in the island but what is more suprising is that things are being done to make football more unpopular in Mauritius. I will explain why..
The Football match of Mauritius against Comoros was not only an important for the Mauritian football but also a historical moment for the Legendary Georges V stadium which was being open after renovations.
For that occasion, the Entrance was FREE !!
Why nothing was done from the MFA and Ministry of Youth and Sports such as publicity on MBC and newspapers in order to make the population at large to know about this great event?.
Albeit being completely renovated and for an international match, only less than a quarter of the seats were being used !.
Desperation of the Mauritian Football fans !
Only a few days before the match that we could get information about the tickets for the match, indeed nothing was available on the website of the Mauritius football association! Not even the date and time of the football match. And guess where we got the information? on FACEBOOK!!
Some Mauritian football fans got the information about the match only when the game started and managed to drive to Curepipe hastily in order to have a glimpse of the match since it WAS NOT EVEN BROADCASTED ON MBC TV !!
Bookmakers and Mauritius Horse racing could have been the reason ? (Hypothesis)
This is just an hypothesis but it does hold. The bookmakers and horse racing companies could have influenced the MFA in not letting people know about this international match since each time the Mauritian team plays, it is a crowd of several thousands people that race towards the stadium.
Anyways, Mauritius won 2-0 against the comoros and we can expect to qualify for the next round. :)
Here is a little video of the match and ambiance ;)

Mauritius intelligentsia has in the early days of the Independence of the Island proved to be the rebellious type. Men and Women fighting on all fronts. However, It should be pointed out that those years were those of rebellion throughout the world. We would remember Woodstock 69'. Youngsters of the baby boom after the 2nd World War had enough of all sorts of injustice and wanted to settle down things once and for all.
The masses took it down to the streets. The winds of change eventually hit Mauritius with more or less the same results. The main families who were the "architects" of the Independence of the Island are still in the reigning positions 44 years later. The same political parties are making alliances and taking the reigns each time. What did the Mauritians gain from it ?.
The most optimistic ones would probably say that we have a democracy. But, at what cost ?. Today on this night of November 2012, may my words be recorded for posterity. Meritocracy is not a reality in Mauritius. Not later than the past week, a Chief Inspector of the Mauritian Police force was transferred to another post. Just some days before that, he filed a case in the supreme court to make a syndicate for the policemen a possibility. Strange coincidence!. I am a skeptical person. I do not believe in coincidences.
The education sector is plagued with persons who favor people of their race or same ethnicity. This is utterly disgusting for the young generation who have being subject to the "1 sel lepep, 1 sel nation" slogan. 1 sel lepep 1 sel nation is just apparently for the folkloric part of Mauritius whilst some people continue to make places for their children and grand children and prospering on the back of the Mauritius who despite having completed their degrees cannot get jobs !. Let alone jobs, they are not even called for interviews.
In 2012, The intelligentsia of the Island is seemingly pushing the island towards a French copy of Democracy. I am not against. But, I got my reserves. Their is absolutely no problems in removing the Best Loser System, but with the racist minded people who are infiltrated all the levels of power, what proof do we have that minorities will be treated equally ?.
When the Mauritians will have the courage to give to minorities the top jobs in government and top posts in the para public bodies, then maybe we might sit down at the same table and discuss about the problems affecting the Island on a same leveled ground. But right now, what is the use of removing the Best loser system ?. Better, what is the sudden urge to do so ?.
The Intelligentsia of the Island not only puts forward the idea of a No best loser political system but also puts forward a system where the leader of a party will be given the power to CHOOSE people who will enter the national assembly without being a representative of the people. This is simply defeating the purpose of democracy. The purpose of having a national assembly is to have persons to represent the people of the country. A leader represents a voice. The voice of the people.
The hypothesis that the political arena of Mauritius is controlled by a cartel does hold. If you go back in history and see who has been reigning and the main names in the top leadership roles, you will find that most of the times, it has been the same families. We are not against having some families to control the country specially if their competent to do so. But, again, what proof do we have that others will have the chance to do so one day if they have the competencies do so?.
Absolutely no guarantees.
The Mauritian Intelligentsia is failing the Mauritians by adopting and copying and pasting things what are done elsewhere but without taking into account the wants and needs of the Mauritians. After the abolition of the abortion, we now have the abolition of the best loser system in the pipeline. Mark my words. The future debates will be based on taking Mauritius to a secular state. A dream for those who are so found of France and its République "laique". The French, by the way, are having debates each and every week about their laicité since it is nowadays proving to be quite difficult to control. It is easy to have a secular state when a lot of the inhabitants do not follow a religious guideline for their day to day life. But see, in Mauritius people are very much religious and holds to their culture. Why does the intelligentsia want to change that ?.
Why does the intelligentsia wants to make Mauritius a secular state ?. Will that annihilate any kind of favoritism or racism ?. I wonder !. Since more than a century now that France is a secular state, why are there organisations like Stop Racism ! or Touche pas à mon pote ! in France!. Why is their such uprising of racism against the migrants or to name them, the muslims. Why is it so difficult to build a mosque in France ?
Therefore, Changing to a secular state to annihilate racism does not hold as can be proven by the French case.
To Annihilate racism in Mauritius, the only remedy would be to introduce a real meritocratic state with Meritocracy as the rule of thumb at all levels whether in government bodies, educational bodies or private sector.

Mauritian Wedding or American Wedding ? :) Our generation is definitely that of the American Pie, Not another teen movie, Old School generation.. Et j'en passe des meilleurs. The American Wedding film in 2003 is one of the masterpieces that our generation has undoubtedly made a classic of. How could we not recall the amazing moment where Jim asks for Michelle's hand. Good old times..
Time has passed and It's already time for wedding ! Many of my generation dudes are getting married, one after the other.. Didn't we say "on se donne rendez-vous dans 10ans?" - my kennedians dudes will remember. Oh well, The American Pie Generation should maybe think of an American Reunion ? :) hehe.. Wedding time is approaching for most of my friends and myself along (don't ask for an invite yet, the cards are not printed yet ! lolz). Time to take a step into a new chapter of our life, a step so much waited for some, a step that will change for most of us our life, a step that will bring a turning point to our life..Yes, we will be married. Less time for my blog, I wonder !. I can only hope not!. Whatever be the case, The Salon du Mariage is opening its doors for a 4 days event at the Mer Rouge Convention Centre for those who do not know how to get there just try google maps :) hehe.. lolz.. The Exhibition will comprise of many companies and exhibitors who can help in the organisation of your wedding and making it a great moment. Dresses and other stuffs will also be available.
Some of my generation can now start thinking about their dream weddings, Mauritius has many facilities nowadays and your wedding would be no different from one made in U.S or U.K if you got the funds!. Why not made a great wedding entrance like this one > http://ashfaqblog.blogspot.com/2010/03/best-clip-since-long-check-out.html
Just for fun.. The old American Wedding Trailer :) hehe..
A blogger is someone who likes to share stuffs on the net and in the blogging circles you have different types of bloggers. Bloggers can be classified in terms of interests, blogging subjects and many other factors. But the common factor remains the fact that all bloggers share information and sometimes opinions.
Bathroom Blogger Shirt - Gift from my Fiancee :) he he
There are many bloggers in Mauritius but for a population of over a million, a count of only around 100 seems indeed insignificant but yet that's plain reality. That could also be a extrapolated to mean that Mauritians in General are not aware of blogging, do not like to share information or simply are not interested.
I stumbled on a post by a blogger friend and got to read an article of Scope Magazine. A list of a few Recommended Mauritian bloggers were listed. And obviously NOT the http://ashfaqblog.blogspot.com hehe.. I am not jealous, no worries.. but hey! why is my blog NOT a recommended blog ? :)
Oh, maybe because of my opinions ! Anyways, I had an amazing day today at Bagatelle Shopping Mall, got loads of gifts .. and the blogger tshirt picture is a gift too from my fiancee. And this post is actually to thank her on behalf of my blog. Love the T-Shirt. xxx
Over and Out ! Ashfaqblog is not a recommended place to be ! lolzz.. Close Tab !

Halal is a word commonly used in Mauritius and elsewhere to describe what is lawful, whether money or food. For a food to be halal it CANNOT contain pork, is not blood (except from liver), does not come from a strangled to death animal, cannot contain alcohol and other intoxicants. Halal is the literal contrary of Haram meaning which is unlawful by islamic laws. What is unlawful to eat for muslims is contained in the Quran (The muslims' holy book).

A french tourist witnessed food sold at Jumbo in Mauritius tagged as halal whereas it is said that the food is actually pork ribs. Whether the halal etiquette is misplaced or the pork etiquette is misplaced is not the discussion. The discussion is to what extent can you trust those companies in providing you with real halal food?. The news was released in 2011 by the website Saphirnews and relayed by the Mauritian website Maurinews.info . I have personally witnessed along with 2 of my colleagues, the seller at the cooked food zone of the jumbo hypermarket that the proper sanitary conditions for delivering halal foods or VEG foods are not respected. The woman in charge of serving us, did not change her gloves after serving pork jambon and served one of my colleagues with the same gloves an Hakien. Word of Caution for Vegetarians and Halal eaters: Do not eat at any food outlets where mix veg and meat are sold as you cannot be sure they are respecting sanitary conditions. Do not eat from supermarket food zones as both porc, meat and veg are served in the same place using the same tools and gloves. I hereby urge the government to take immediate action to setup a committee in order to give real halal certifications and real veg certifications to restaurants and food outlets as well as manufacturing companies in Mauritius.

The car drivers should always respect the road traffic regulations else life would be difficult for others. The sabot is not a method of repression against car drivers but should be taken as a good way of keeping all roads safe and pleasant for everyone.
Everyone knows that it is forbidden to park your car anywhere, however some persons persist in parking anywhere they want to. There are some cases of emergency that could be understood but most of them are cases where the drivers are just lenient and don't bother about the laws until they caught.
Some need to be caught infringing the laws several times for them to start obeying the laws as the fines would be too high for them to pay. The drivers should therefore understand that the penalty is not a way of oppression on them but rather a way to keep some order.
Have you ever had your car blocked like this ? :) tell us about your experience.
Great Weekend, and what is best is that you do not have to think about having to wake up early on Monday to go to WORK ! because it is public holiday. I remember dad used to tell me long ago, they used to drink soft drinks on Independence days, I think they were given soft drinks free or it was sold cheaper on that day. I do not remember well. But anyway, In 2012, no more free or cheaper stuffs on the Independence day. In fact, people are arrested at pacific walks.

Times have changed. Things have changed in good ways and some less good ways but that's only depending on where you stand. Those who benefit from it would say life have become much better for them. That's another debate that I wouldn't want to spark off.

As far as the title is concerned. I do not think that enjoying on the 11th and 12th of March makes you a Mauritian. Why would you be proud to be a Mauritian ? Because you can wave your flag and scream around ? I mean you can do that with any other flags, I am sure the feeling will be pretty much the same !.

In 2012, in Mauritius you should understand that you are alone and as our PM says it quite often "no one owes you anything". Mauritians should understand that. They cannot continue to rely on help from others and charity but should stand up on their own. Only that day shall be see an independent Mauritius. As long as people will be living and depending on the welfare state, we won't have an independent Mauritius !.
The A. G. Jeetoo Hospital located in Port Louis, has been renovated or should be say rebuilt to meet international standards. As we can read from the government's website "The project, estimated at about Rs 1.5 billion, is expected to be completed by October 2010." Dated Oct 17, 2008
We are in February 2012 and the works have not yet been completed and it is a pity to see that a hospital that has not yet been completed and which should meet international standards is in such a state !. What can be expect from the other older hospitals of the island ?

I agree that the finish and overall design is very beautiful to the eyes. But what is the use of having INOX handrails and dazzling reception desks while something useful like a TOILET is not taken care of ?

The toilets are a real pity as you can see on the pictures. The hospital should be a place free from contamination, you go there to get treated not to get infected.
