The fasting of Ashoura

Ashoura or Ashura, is a day of remembrance, is the 10th of the month of Muharram. The 10th of this islamic month has been known to have witnessed many important events in the arab world. Also, This day is celebrated by Shia people all over the world. The historical facts behind this special day are as follows:

The last prophet of Islam, Muhammad (p.b.u.h) was on a visit to Madina (fr : Medine) where one of his companions there told him that a Jew was fasting. Muhammad (p.b.u.h) also fasted that same day. He went to meet that Jew and asked him why he was fasting that day.
The jew replied that Moses delivered the jews from pharaon (Ramses 2) on that day and they fast that day as Moses fasted to thank God for this favor on his people. Since then, the jews fasted on that day.
Muhammad (p.b.u.h), told the jew that he and his people were closer to Moses than the jew was. Muhammad thus decided to fast the 9th and 10th of Muharram the next year. Some scholars say the 10th and 11th of Muharram. And some recommend to fast the 3 days.

The Uranah Valley of Mount Arafat where the prophet delivered his farewell sermon.

Shi'a and the Battle of Karbala
The Shi'a celebrate that day as a day of mourning. In some countries, like Mauritius, Iran, Pakistan, Iraq, India and some others, they perform rituals which include flagellations. Some of those rituals include carrying caravans to a place they call Karbala.

The Imam Husayn Ibn Ali, The grandson of the prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h), and son of Ali, who married the daughter of the prophet, died in the battle of Karbala. Karbala is nowadays found in Iraq.
The small group accompanying Husayn, around 100 persons, were attacked by the army of Yazid which counted more than 100,000 persons. All the companions of Husayn were killed and the dead bodies were mutilated after their death. The women and children were taken to Yazid in Syria where they were imprisoned. This ends the historical facts about the battle of Karbala.

Is it part of Islam?
On the Farewell (Last) Sermon of Muhammad (p.b.u.h), he said "This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion." (Surah Al-Ma'idah 5 / verse 3)
Muhammad (p.b.u.h), was also the "seal of the prophets", meaning the last one as the quran states it, " Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but (he is) the Messenger of ALLAH, and the Seal of the Prophets: and ALLAH has full knowledge of all things." (Surah Al-Ahzab 33 / verse 40)

The prophet Muhammad died and his grandson Husayn died 60 years later. The religion Islam, as said by the last prophet, God had completed the religion on his people. Thus, 60 years later, the grandson of the prophet dies, he simply is not part of the religion Islam and any rituals, mournings and others cannot be associated to Islam. Mourning is not admitted and ALL DAYS are normal days where weddings can be celebrated which is not the case for Shi'a people who do not accept to make celebrations on those days.

The fasting of Ashura is for the 9th and 10th or 10th and 11th or 9th,10th and 11th of muharram, which is in Mauritius on Saturday the 26th, the 9th of Muharram. This fasting is not obligatory.
The prophet said that the fasting of Muharram cleans the bad deeds of the year passed.

*p.b.u.h - peace be upon him

Magazine Launch and Seminar

Today we assisted the Footprints Media Seminar and the launching of the New Global Indian Magazine at the University of Mauritius in collaboration with The Symbiosis International University in Pune.

Many of you would have already asked yourself what is this all about? Firstly, this magazine has been created for the Indians throughout the world. The Prof Ujjwal K Chowdhury, Dean of Symbiosis International University in Pune, highlighted that the word “non-resident” is a negative word to use, so the concept of “New Global Indian” has been set forward to define those Indians who settle down in other countries like the UK, USA, UAE and even Mauritius etc. As on the magazine itself, it says “A forum for Forward Thinking Indians Globally”.

But what is more interesting in this magazine is that our paradisiac island has been given a privileged place under the international focus aspect. It eventually speaks of our economy, our flourishing tourism, and the Father of the Mauritian Nation. Furthermore, the famous UNESCO’s recognition of our two historical sites at the immigration depot, or Aapravasi Ghat and Le Morne have been mentioned. After all, this magazine promotes Mauritius and the Indians can have a view of our little island. Surely, this magazine will be published worldwide<

Moreover, in this ceremony, a surprising event has taken place. The team of the New Global Indian usually gives a “Young Communicator award” to a deserving person whichever country they land to. The first country was Dubai and now it comes to us. And the person who was awarded was Mrs Ariane Cavalot-de-l’Estrac, Director of Publications of l’Express. Congrats to you and we wish you all the best in whatever you undertake.

Finally, the interactive session between the speakers of the ceremony and the audience was a great one. We learnt many interesting things about the way information (news whether breaking news, international news or even local ones) is imparted in Mauritius and around the world. We came to a conclusion that the Mauritian youngsters are more prone to check the online news rather than reading a printed newspaper. Ashfaq, the owner of this blog suggests to Mrs Ariane Cavalot-de-l’Estrac that the local newspapers should provide a place in her newspaper for the blogosphere world where the blog articles could be published and youngsters could interact and share their views. She indeed took note of this interesting suggestion.

After all, it was a nice and interesting seminar since at the end, we received a key-chain from dubai in its satchet, the magazine from India, and surely good food and drinks..hehe

Eid-ul-adha .. learn more ..

What is Eid-ul-adha ?
It is known by most as the holiday where millions of muslims slaughter cow, ox, mutton, camel ! ..
Well, for most of you who would resume eid-ul-adha to that.. it is not true.
Eid-ul-adha or commonly known as bakr-eid (bakr - meaning cow) - is a very special day for not only muslims but for jews, as well as christians.

Abraham was a prophet of all 3 religions.

This special day is a remembrance day where abraham was called upon by god to slaughter his beloved son, but we would all remember, the son was replaced by a mutton in the end and the son was not sacrificed.
This special occasion is to remember this very historical event which holds many meanings.

However, this sacrifice as i would relate to it henceforth, brings responsibility onto the persons carrying it on.
Here are some of the responsibilities of the persons bringing an animal to be slaughtered to their place:
  • They should give the animal the same food that it has been eating where it was initially.
  • The animal should be aged a minimum of 2 years.
  • Any animal slaughtered before the person has done the eid prayer will not count as a qurbani for him.
  • It is also recalled that the person taking part in a qurbani should not eat anything till he has slaughtered the animal and should eat a part of this meat. However, shall the person not be able to resist his hungriness, he shall be able to eat something.
  • for those who are not taking part in qurbani, they shall not eat until they do the eid prayer on the eid-ul-adha day.
  • The animal should be given the best care.
  • It should not be tied up in such way that it is not free to move.
All those responsibilities should be fulfilled such that your sacrifice is counted as such.

Eid Mubarak to everyone.

[Read More]

Le prophète (Salla lahou 'aleyhi wa Salam) dit :
Viendra une epoque où ma communauté aimera 5 choses et en oubliera 5 autres;

MAMA MIA - ABBA - A song across generations

A song through the decades :)
A Group Across the Generations
MaMa Mia by ABBA
Is surely one of those which we won't get enough of :)

I've been cheated by you since I don't know when
So I made up my mind, it must come to an end
Look at me now, will I ever learn?
I don't know how but I suddenly lose control
There's a fire within my soul
Just one look and I can hear a bell ring
One more look and I forget everything, o-o-o-oh

Mamma mia, here I go again
My my, how can I resist you?
Mamma mia, does it show again?
My my, just how much I've missed you
Yes, I've been brokenhearted
Blue since the day we parted
Why, why did I ever let you go?
Mamma mia, now I really know,
My my, I could never let you go.

I've been angry and sad about the things that you do
I can't count all the times that I've told you we're through
And when you go, when you slam the door
I think you know that you won't be away too long
You know that I'm not that strong.
Just one look and I can hear a bell ring
One more look and I forget everything, o-o-o-oh

Mamma mia, here I go again
My my, how can I resist you?
Mamma mia, does it show again?
My my, just how much I've missed you
Yes, I've been brokenhearted
Blue since the day we parted
Why, why did I ever let you go?
Mamma mia, even if I say
Bye bye, leave me now or never
mamma mia, it's a game we play
Bye bye doesn't mean forever

Mamma mia, here I go again
My my, how can I resist you?
Mamma mia, does it show again?
My my, just how much I've missed you
Yes, I've been brokenhearted
Blue since the day we parted
Why, why did I ever let you go
Mamma mia, now I really know
My my, I could never let you go

Blogger Mauritius Community..

After much thought, and thinking about the consequences of removing the links from my blog roll. I decided to do it in the end. After the blogger meeting, i honestly thought that the bloggers would be making a united community of persons online which would work together and all.
But, after 2-3 weeks having updated the blog roll with Mauritian Bloggers' links, i found it astounding 2 weeks ago that on many of those blogs, other people were found in the blog rolls but NOT MINE !!! Great was my surprise ! .. Indeed, i has been displaying their blogs and websites for weeks and they didn't find it nice to put mine on their websites.
I finally decided to piss off those persons and to update my blog roll leaving them off..
Furthermore, on many discussion topics, i have come to understand that some of those bloggers were kind of racists ! .. Talking about religion and add religious beliefs of persons into talks where they had nothing to do! ..Following this experience, i henceforth urge Mauritians and my dear friends not to go to those websites.

Here is my final blog roll (bloggers who appreciate my blog and who i appreciate):

Back to my old template!!

As some of u might have noticed, i am back to my old template for my blog. This decision came after much thought and many problems with the new template i had just started using ( or testing as i prefer saying! LMAO haha).
Indeed, the template i had just put had problems with the videos being on the main page itself and hiding a great deal of space on my blog.
But, if it were only that !!!

As i am listed in the afrigator list, i was on the 5th position 3 days ago, and after applying the new template, i felt from 5th to 18th position !!! and my page views to 6042 page view ranks !!
I had to react and finally decided to change back to the old template whereby as you can see on the afrigator site, my page view and visitors ranks burst back to ranks 1146, and 1197 according to page views.

One Advice : Before changing your template to some modified template, think twice !! ..

The template i wanted to use is below !! you can always try it and let me know !

What i liked the most with this template, was that it gave me the wordpress page which was lighter to load and without the inconvenience of changing my blog to wordpress.
If you are thinking to change from blogger to wordpress. Try this template first. You can then keep you page views !!..

President Hu Jintao in Mauritius on 24 hour Visit.

The honorable President of the People's republic of China, his excellency Mr. Hu Jintao is finally in Mauritius. The much awaited visit of the president which brings hope of developpement for the small island of Mauritius which is the door of africa for China.

The Chinese President has many big subjects of discussion on his 24 hours agenda here:
  • tianli & construction projects.
  • further loans / credit agreements.
  • Reinforcement of sino-mauritian relationships.
The Chateau du Reduit has been been nicely dressed into chinese :)) for the visit of his excellency, the President of the People's Republic of China.

Very nice and positive vibrations around Mauritius today, with the visit of his excellency to Mauritius, which is something very big and the Mauritians are experiencing a sensation of unknown. They don't know if it is a good thing for the country or a bad thing. However, since the "Mauritian" is more or less of a positive attitude, he is expecting a lot from the visit of such an important guest to our dot-like country on the World Map!.

The Prime Minister of Mauritius greeted the President of the People's Republic of China at the Sir Seewosagur Ramgoolam International Airport today, 16 February 2009 at 15h55.

Mauritius was in a quasi-quarantined state by evening !! As shown on the pictures below, however, most roads were open but the Mauritians, after a busy morning in the heat and scorching sun preferred stay in their cosy homes.
The regions of reduit / quatre bornes / trianon / palma were like under quarantine!! lolzz..

The chinese and sino-mauriciens were not going to miss such a great opportunity of seeing their president, knowing that in china, they are 1 in 1000 millions, and here only 1 in a million , they had a much more likely chance of seeing him, some of who even got the chance to shake his hand.

Tomorow, Mauritius will again be waiting eagerly what the chinese President has for us, and will again be kept under quarantine for some more hours :)

NO ENTRY - HIS EXCELLENCY IS FINALLY HERE :)
